FAQ

Is this site for real?

Absolutely! After many years of enjoying my car, I am putting it up for sale for someone else to have a chance to have a car that cost $80,000 new, at a fraction of the price.

Is that "Virtual Test Drive" really the car you are selling, or some stock footage you found on the internet?

The Virtual Test Drive was filmed right here in Ohio using the 740i which is for sale. It was filmed on August 12th and 13th, 2008. I used a standard Sony DV Camera and an assistant to film the shots of the car being driven around the area.

Isn't 123,068 miles a lot to have when buying a car?

This all depends on the car and how it was taken care of. In America, 123,068 might be considered a lot based on our general perception of American Cars and their reliability. On a German car, especially a BMW or Mercedes Benz, 123,000 miles is not considered "high mileage." The Germans frequently travel the expansive Autobahn network of highways to commute and visit different parts of Europe for vacationing or "holiday." It is common to see many BMW and Mercedes Benz cars with over 100,000 miles (164,000 km) in many parts Europe. Europeans demand robust, durable machines when living in harsh climates or traveling at speeds of 100+ MPH. For this reason, German cars are notorious for using thicker metals, extra reinforced components and long-lasting designs that stand the test of time.

Are there service records included?

Yes! Every service record since the car was delivered to its new owner and throughout my ownership. The car was always serviced at a BMW dealership or by a BMW mechanic. Both myself and the original owner are very meticulous about their cars. Anything that has needed or might have needed repair, was immediately addressed using only Genuine BMW parts. The recommended BMW Maintenance schedule (Inspection I and II and Oil Changes) were also followed based on the service indicator lights.

I have never seen wheels like that before. Are those factory BMW wheels?

Of course. Those wheels are called BMW "Style 95" 19 inch Light Alloy wheels and were purchased directly from BMW with factory balanced Pirelli Tires. They are a staggered setup which means the rear wheels and tires are wider than the front for maximum performance and a more aggressive appearance. A matching 19" spare with Pirelli tire is currently in the trunk in case of a flat. For the winter months, the standard 16" alloy wheels (plus spare) are included in the sale for excellent snow handling.

Since this is a rear wheel drive car, how will it handle in the snow?

Surprisingly, this car can out handle many front wheel drive cars and some 4X4 trucks because of the its Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system. When the car senses any sort of unintentional changes in direction or wheel slippage, a sophisticated computer automatically applies the brakes to each individual wheel to ensure the driver's inputs are followed exactly. If every car had DSC in 2006, the NHTSA estimates 10,000 lives could have been saved in the US alone. Thankfully, the 7 Series has had DSC standard since 1998. DSC is mandatory standard equipment on all cars sold in Europe.

Is this car safe?

The 7 Series is one of the safest cars in the world according to a recent study by the IIHS. Because this car is designed for use at high speeds, it has additional safety systems and design built in from when it was on the drawing board. This 740i is equipped with dual front airbags, side impact airbags and a head protection system. Thick steel and oversized frame structure ensure occupant protection in the worst of accidents. Coupled with Dynamic Stability Control, Anti-Lock Brakes, 4 wheel disc brakes with Electronic Brake Control and the powerful xenon lights, an accident is usually avoided in the first place.
